Healthy banana chocolate chip muffins are a quick and easy treat your whole family will love! Using greek yogurt instead of oil, they’re the perfect, easy recipe for breakfast on-the-go, a mid-day snack with your coffee or a delicious dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth!
This recipe was developed in partnership with Dannon Oikois Greek Yogurt, but all opinions are 100% my own!
Can I just tell you guys how excited I am to share this recipe with you all?
Like… REALLY excited.
- It’s chocolate… that’s healthy
- It takes like two seconds to throw together
- It uses my all-time favorite greek yogurt to make the most protein-packed banana chocolate chip muffins out there.
As mentioned eight million times in my last post (15 Ways to Eat Healthy on a Budget ) Michael and I are Costco’s number one fan — not sponsored, just realness.
One of our staples includes greek yogurt… but not just ANY greek yogurt… Dannon Oikos specifically. They sell an 18 pack for dirt cheap. Our only complaint is wishing they had an 18 pack of vanilla. We’re always fighting over who has to get stuck with the peach flavor HA.
Literally every single night after dinner, we get cozied up, make our yogurt bowls that get LOADED with cereal and peanut butter, and watch Netflix. I’m not kidding when I say every night.
We strategically plan our portion sizes at dinner so we can load up on these greek yogurt bowls.
If you follow me on instagram I’m sure you’ve seen this nightly routine many, MANY times.
Michael loads his bowl with Special K (picks out the fruit of course) and adds about 1/2 cup of JIF peanut butter. He also likes to add a little bit of vanilla almond milk to his to make his greek yogurt less thick.
I, on the other hand, place my greek yogurt container in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes before our nightly ritual so it’s creamy like ice cream! I’ll add in Kashi cereal for the fiber and crunch, and 2 tbsp natural peanut butter. This all depends on my mood though.
Sometimes I’m right there with Michael dumping on the special k, dark chocolate chips and allll the peanut butter.
We always ask each other when this habit will stop, but it’s been going strong since before we graduated college! So, I don’t think it has any signs of stopping soon.
Enough about Michael and I’s greek yogurt bowl obsession and onto these:
healthy banana chocolate chip muffins!
I posted a teaser on my Instagram last week and everyone seemed equally excited about the idea of protein-packed, healthy banana chocolate chip muffins. Gosh I just LOVE getting y’alls feedback!
This healthy banana chocolate chip muffin recipe is made healthy by using:
- Greek yogurt instead of oil.
- Whole wheat flour (If you choose!)
- Egg whites to keep them fluffy!
- Dark chocolate chips for antioxidant boost.
I learned about five years ago how big of a life-saver bananas are in recipes. They can be used to make basically all desserts “healthy”.
- Sweet Potato Banana Bread
- Healthy 2-Ingredient Banana Pancakes with Apple Cinnamon Syrup
- 50-Calorie Breakfast Cookies
Please excuse the photography on a couple of those posts.. ohhh the early days of blogging!
I use greek yogurt in almost all of my baked goods as a healthy baking swap for oil. It’s a one-to-one ratio, so really simple to convert.
I also love using plain greek yogurt as a topping on my soups, my favorite slow cooker white chicken chili recipe, tacos or anywhere sour cream would normally be used (like chicken salad!)
It’s packed with protein and I absolutely love the texture.
What do you all think!? Do you love greek yogurt as much as we do!? Happy baking!
