How can you make Chex Mix by cooking it for only 5 minutes? I know that sounds crazy, right? Today I am spilling the beans on how to make your next batch of vegan Chex mix in your air fryer! Don’t worry if you don’t have an air fryer yet because I am listing instructions for the oven as well 🙂

You may have heard that air fryers are all the rage right now, so I had to get one and try it out myself…verdict is… I LOVE IT!

Air fryers cook by convection, so they decrease cooking time and you can make “fried” foods without actually having to submerge your foods in unhealthy artery-clogging oils! Anything you make in the oven can usually be converted to an air fryer recipe! So if you are experimenting, let me know!

What is Nutritional Yeast?

If you are new to the vegan lifestyle or maybe just unfamiliar with nutritional yeast, its actually pretty popular! It typically comes in a powder or flake texture and has a nutty or cheesy kind of flavor.

Nutritional Yeast also has lots of health benefits and is versatile when it comes to all eating styles.

Ingredietns in Vegan Chex Mix:

Whole Grains – You are welcome to add whatever you would like for your own mix, but I chose to use cheese crackers, cheerios, and Chex cereal all of which are whole grain.

Popcorn – You can purchase store-bought popcorn or make your own, it just needs to be popped before cooking in the air fryer or oven. I added lesser evil popcorn to mine! If you purchase online, be sure to use my code hellospoonful20 for 20% off. I don’t earn a commission from this code, it just saves you money! 🙂

Mixed Nuts – Choose any variety you would like!

Other Ingredients – Nutritional Yeast, coconut oil, salt, onion powder, and garlic powder

Is Chex Mix Vegan?

Most flavors of chex mix are not vegan. They contain whey protein or additives. Cheddar chex mix is not vegan; however, my version of cheddar chex mix is 100% vegan friendly and delicious!

How To Make Air Fryer Vegan Chex Mix

Combine all of your ingredients in a bowl and stir in your melted coconut oil. Then pour the Chex mix into the air fryer. Cook at 350F degrees for 5 minutes. Shake the basket after about 3 minutes, then finish cooking.

*Most of the time you will notice when you see air fryer recipes it says not to overfill your basket, and you basically cook in single layers. For Chex mix, this isn’t necessary because most of our ingredients are already crispy and crunchy. So technically we are not trying to get the same crispiness as you would with chicken tenders or fries.

Can I Make Vegan Chex Mix in the Oven?

Yes! Prepare the Chex Mix the same way you would for the air fryer, except you will pour the mix onto a cookie sheet and cook for 1 hour at 250F degrees. Be sure to use a spatula to stir often. Depending on how you oven cooks, you may need less time.

Healthy Homemade Chex Mix is best when it comes right out of the oven or air fryer. If you would like to store it for later, use Ziploc bags or an airtight container!

  1. Hey there, you’re recipe sounds yummy but cheese crackers don’t qualify as a vegan product. Any suggestions to substitute?
