Summer grilling is in full-force so bring on all the barbecue please and thank you!
I’m not sure if it’s because I grew up in the South or what, but I crave bbq 24/7. One of my favorite places to eat when I’m in Nashville is Puckett’s. They have an awesome bbq chopped salad, and you better believe I load on the bbq sauce!
I mentioned in my stories while shooting the tutorial for this low-sugar, easy bbq sauce recipe that I prefer making my own sauces when possible.
Most store-bought bbq sauce are packed with high-fructose corn syrup, natural flavors and other funky ingredients that I prefer to avoid when possible.
Obviously this isn’t realistic to avoid ALL the time, and I certainly indulge in some Sweet Baby Ray’s from time to time, but I will always prefer to make my own.
Not only is this low sugar bbq sauce incredibly easy to make, but it also doesn’t require any crazy, off-the-wall ingredients.
All you need for this Easy BBQ Sauce Recipe is:

This low sugar bbq sauce could also be made salt-free if you prefer. That’s another one of the reasons I like making my own sauces– you can control how much of each ingredient you want!
If you’re a salt fiend like myself, you might want to add a little more salt at the end.
If you’re on a no-sugar diet, you can nix the sugar! It’s completely up to you.
I added some paprika to my finished product for a little kick. Feel free to add any spices or herbs your heart desires to make this easy bbq sauce recipe your own!
It’s always fun to get creative with new recipes.
HOW I PREPARED THE BAKED CHICKEN BREAST:
I decided to season a chicken breast with paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper and pan sear it over medium heat in a skillet with extra virgin olive oil.
After searing it on both sides for 3 minutes, I placed it in the oven at 400F to bake for 20 minutes. Halfway through I coated it generously with the low-sugar bbq sauce and finished baking until cooked through.
I served my bbq chicken over greens with rice, mango, feta, avocado and fresh tomatoes. It hit the spot!
