Chili and stews are one of my favorite meals to make once the weather starts to cool down.

Most are dump and go recipes, and when you throw the ingredients in the slow cooker, it’s almost impossible to mess up.

I will definitely be adding this easy recipe to my roundup of 22 healthy crock pot chili recipes to save for later.

This collection is perfect for holding onto so you never have to eat the same chili twice.

Ingredients Needed:

  • lean ground beef or turkey – either will taste delicious. You can also save these slow cooker ground turkey recipes for later too.
  • can of diced tomatoes – you can also use the tomatoes that are seasoned with basil, garlic, and oregano for more flavor.
  • mixed chili beans in mild sauce – I used one can of mixed pinto and kidney beans in chili sauce and one can of black beans in chili sauce.
  • Onion – use fresh or frozen.
  • chili powder – increase the amount for a spicier chili.

Tips for Making

  • To make cleaning up easy, use a crockpot liner.
  • I browned my meat directly in the slow cooker. If yours doesn’t have that function, you can do it on the stovetop.
  • If you have an Instant Pot, you can use the slow cooker function as well.

Can I Make This Chili on the Stove Top?

Brown the meat with the onions, then drain the grease.

Add the remaining ingredients to a large stock pot.

Bring the chili to a boil, then cover and reduce to a simmer for 30-45 minutes.

How to Store

Keep leftover cooked and cooled chili in a large airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

You can also freeze it in a bag or souper cubes for individual servings.

When you are ready to serve, microwave it or heat it over low heat on the stovetop.

Can I Make it Vegan or Vegetarian?

If you are looking for a vegan or vegetarian chili I would recommend my Quinoa chili with kidney and black beans.

It’s similar to this recipe, but using quinoa adds more nutrition.

For this recipe, you can omit the meat and double the beans.
