Vegan 5 Ingredient Banana Bread
This vegan banana bread with chocolate chips is super easy to make and only requires 5 ingredients that you probably already have on hand.
I love when I go to make something and already have the ingredients at home. Not sure why that’s so satisfying but it is, and it makes cooking much easier. Especially if you aren’t in the mood or are tired.
You already know that most of my baking recipes require chocolate chips and I use bananas in many of my recipes. One is because they provide natural sweetness. The other reason, is because we always have some that are on the verge of being wasted, and I hate that. Plus by that time they are even better to use because they are ripe.
Vegan Banana Bread Ingredients
- Overripe bananas
- Brown sugar
- Vegan butter – could swap this for applesauce, but the bread may be a little drier
- All purpose flour
- Baking soda – make sure your baking soda is good. If it’s old your bread may not rise
- Chocolate chips – use your favorite variety. For extra sweetness use milk chocolate not the semi sweet.
How to Make Vegan Banana Bread With Only 5 Ingredients
Line your loaf pan with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Combine the mashed bananas and vegan butter in a mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer on medium high speed until it’s mixed.
Pour in the flour and baking soda. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips, being careful not to overmix.
Pour the bread batter into the pan so it’s an even layer.
Sprinkle a few more chocolate chips on top and bake for 50 to 55 minutes. Once a toothpick comes out clean, it’s ready.
Transfer to a wire rack and let it cool for one to two hours before slicing.
Can You Make It Gluten Free?
I haven’t tested this recipe in a gluten free version. However, you can substitute the flour without adding more wet ingredients or the texture will change.
Storing and Freezing
Once the banana bread has cooled completely, store it on the countertop or in the fridge for 3 days.
To freeze, place the slices (or an entire loaf) in a freezer bag, squeeze out the air and freeze for 2 months.
Let it thaw at room temperature or in the fridge overnight before serving or heating in the microwave.
Do You Have To Use Chocolate Chips?
Nope these are totally optional, but I LOVE adding these to bread recipes. You can leave them out or swap them for walnuts or pecans

A delicious healthier option to traditional Banana Bread. Letting the bread cool completely definitely enhances both flavor and slice-ability!
