Lately, I have been all about the protein! I recently made blueberry protein muffins and banana protein muffins, which is what inspired this healthy bread recipe.

If you are thinking, oh my gosh this is just another banana bread recipe…you’re wrong, so keep reading!

I am all for a protein packed snack and breakfast, but sometimes that just doesn’t seem possible with busy schedules.

One thing I have learned as a new-ish mom is that I find myself putting everything else before me. Which is how most moms feel, right?

But if we don’t take care of ourselves and fuel our bodies, there’s no way we can keep up with all of the things. So I am adding protein in every way possible.

Some don’t really like protein powder but the key is finding the right brand. You can order my favorite one on Amazon and they also sell it at Costco!

There are tons of recipes where you can get natural protein, but most of the time sweets, breads, and muffins really lack in this area, which is why I add protein powder.

Protein Banana Bread Ingredients

Bananas – you want them to be ripe!

Greek yogurt – use your favorite Greek yogurt, the plain version. If you don’t have plain, vanilla will work ok. Just check the sugar content and adjust as needed.

Honey – swap for maple syrup if needed. Make sure it’s pure maple syrup and not maple flavored syrup.

eggs

vanilla extract

oat flour – be sure to pack it when measuring. You can make your own, but I prefer to buy it so it’s super finely ground!

vanilla protein powder – whey or plant-based will work. I really like this vanilla protein powder for my recipes!

Cinnamon

Baking powder

baking soda

dark chocolate chips – I used Lily’s Milk Chocolate Chips because they have no sugar added.

How To Make Banana Bread with Protein

Line a bread (loaf) pan with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, mash the banana until they are smooth and there are no lumps.

Add in the Greek yogurt, honey, vanilla, and eggs, and mix together.

Then add the rest of the ingredients except the chocolate chips.

Fold in the chocolate chips, saving a few to sprinkle on top.

Pour the batter into the loaf pan.

Sprinkle with the chocolate chips and bake for 40 to 50 minutes.

Cover it halfway through with foil so it doesn’t burn the top.

What Kind of Protein Powder Should I Use?

This is really a personal preference, but it’s safe to use whey, collagen, or plant based protein for this banana bread.

If you are new to picking out proteins, they are definitely not created equally – their nutrition or taste.

Orgain is a brand of plant-based protein, and both their vanilla and chocolate fudge powders are delicious.

When you open the containers it actually smells good and sweet and I think works well in desserts and with baking in general.

Variations

Nuts: Add walnuts on top or in the batter for added flavor and crunch

Glaze: Make a homemade sugar glaze or drizzle some creamy peanut butter on top.

Chocolate: experiment with different dark chocolates and semi-sweet varieties.

You can also use chocolate protein powder if you want it double chocolate!

Vegan: sub the eggs for flax eggs

More Ways to Use Up Ripe Bananas

Just so you know you aren’t the only person to buy bananas so they can rot 🙂

Here are some more popular recipes that call for ripe bananas, so don’t toss them just yet!

These are just a few of my banana recipes, there are a ton more on the blog!

Storing Protein Bread

Protein banana bread will last up to a week when stored in an airtight container or bag in the fridge.

Freeze in loaves or individual slices.

Allow it to thaw the night before you want to eat it.

Great recipe! I followed it exactly except used Bob’s Gluten-Free All-Purpose flour because that’s all I had on hand. Turned out wonderful, moist, slightly sweet but not overly so. Will make again!

just wondering if you’ve got the nutritional facts ?

    1. Thank you so much! I don’t have the nutrition information but you can add all the ingredients to an online nutrition calculator and divide by the serving size to find that information! Thank you again for the kind words 🙂

I’ve made this recipe 5 times and it has turned out perfect every time! Most recently I made it into 12 muffins instead of a loaf and baked them for 20 minutes. I’ve found that blending up 1 1/2 cups of quick oats makes just about 1 1/4 cups of oat flour. I follow the recipe exactly and they are so moist and perfectly sweet. Thanks so much!!!

I used almond flour instead of oat because that’s all I had. Made it into muffins and they are delicious!
