If you’ve followed me for any amount of time it’s pretty obvious my obsession with oatmeal is on another level. I’ve legit eaten oatmeal for breakfast every day the past three years (aside from when we travel and it’s not available).

Last Tuesday was the first day I woke up and wasn’t feeling it. I made some anyway, because it’s routine… but now that it’s in the 80’s in Atlanta, I find myself wanting a more soothing breakfast. Not HOT oats after a workout.

Mocha Protein Overnight Oats

I’d only made overnight oats once or twice before. Once in the form of carrot cake overnight oats (to DIE for) and again using a recipe similar to the one I’m about to share!

These healthy mocha protein overnight oats use Biochem’s Whey Protein Isolate + Energy powder and cacao powder to give them the BEST flavor.

Choosing a protein powder can be tricky, but this is one I trust and HIGHLY recommend because they provide clean, pure, whey protein from grass fed cows! I also love that this protein powder contains the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee to increase my energy. This also helps burn calories after your workout (if you’re in need of that sort of thing!)

If you’re not into the coffee flavor, Biochem offers a TON of other flavors. They have chocolate, vanilla, coconut and matcha. I decided to not add any sweetener to this recipe because Michael and I have different ideas of what’s considered “sweet” and what’s not — HA. This way we could each add the amount of pure maple syrup we want at the end 🙂

Once I made my bowl, I topped it will banana, peanut butter and a little stevia. These mocha protein overnight oats hit the SPOT and were the perfect post-workout meal because they’re loaded with protein, fiber, carbs and a little fat!

I’ve been adding in a lot more weight exercises lately (some are saved in my instagram highlights!), so getting in a good amount of protein after my workouts is essential!

Getting in the right nutrients after exercise can help you rebuild your muscle proteins and glycogen stores. It also helps stimulate growth of new muscle.

Consuming an adequate amount of protein after a workout gives your body the amino acids it needs to repair and rebuild these proteins. It also gives you the building blocks required to build new muscle tissue. As for carbs, your body’s glycogen stores are used as fuel during exercise, so consuming carbs after your workout helps replenish them.

I made this recipe last night and ate it for breakfast this morning… it was so good! I’ve recently loved trying new overnight oats recipes and this one is a favorite. Thankfully I already had the coffee protein powder, but I’m sure a chocolate protein powder would be great too. Thank you!
