GUYS! happy monday — has it been a weird couple weeks for anyone else or just me? I’m currently getting over strep throat — the ACTUAL worst — so my energy’s been lacking. I hate being sick more than anything!
I especially hate being sick because that means working out is off limits.. 🙁 It truly is such a stress reliever + mood booster for me. I’ve been getting back into weights (see the 7 Benefits of Female Weight Training for why you need to start asap!) which makes me happy and i’m having fun with it over on my instagram stories, too.

I’ve been posting some of the exercises I do and it’s something fun for michael and I to do together. I let him choose the music since he’s filming… so you can expect to hear a LOT of Lecrae + Andy Mineo.
Since working out is NOT worth getting more sick over, I decided to spend the day baking instead!
I bought a banana bread baking mix from trader joes + made some swaps to keep it dairy-free and vegan. Even though this recipe isn’t made from scratch, you can follow the same dairy-free swaps with any banana bread recipe you like!
I also bought the cutest mini-loaf pan at home goods, so I decided to make 7 versions of this healthy, dairy free banana bread recipe!

Dairy Free Banana Bread
For the base…
HOW TO Go Dairy FREE
- Sub your eggs with flax “eggs”
- 1 Tbsp Flaxseed Meal (i used this brand for mine) + 2.5 Tbsp Water = 1 egg
- let it soak for 5 minutes!
- 1 Tbsp Flaxseed Meal (i used this brand for mine) + 2.5 Tbsp Water = 1 egg
- Sub banana mash instead of oil or yogurt in recipes
- Use a 1:1 ratio when subbing banana for oil in your recipe!
- make sure its really well blended – I blended mine in my nutri-ninja!
- Use a 1:1 ratio when subbing banana for oil in your recipe!
- Sub Almond Milk for other liquids
- I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead of water to give it a more interesting flavor 🙂
1. Make it T R O P I C A L
- Sprinkle macadamia nuts into the batter
- Blend in a little coconut oil + coconut flakes
- & top it with coconut flakes
- PS – if you love macadamia nuts, you’ll also love this 5 Minute Vegan Cheese made with them, too!

2. Get SEASONAL
- Try adding Mashed Sweet potato (See my Sweet Potato Banana Recipe to make one from scratch!), Apple Sauce or any fruit/jam to mix it up
- For mine, I chose to mix in a spoonful of unsweetened apple sauce
- Be careful though! Apple sauce acts as an oil substitute and can leave you mixture flat if you use too much.
3. Spice it UP
- Blend in some… cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, etc.
- I particularly love this spice 🙂
4. Throw some STREUSEL on it
- I used the streusel recipe from my Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Oat Muffins to top off a loaf of this dairy free banana bread and it was UNREAL
- You’ll need: oats, cinnamon, sugar + butter

5. Get lost in the SWIRL
- For the chocolate swirl dairy free banana bread here’s what I did:
- Separate the batter into two
- Mix almond milk + cocoa into a bowl (about 1 tsp cocoa + 2 tsp almond milk)
- Melt about 1 tbsp chocolate chips in the microwave + blend both chocolate mixtures together
- Combine on of the batters with the chocolate mixture so you now have one regular batter and one chocolate batter
- Swirl two batters together, but not completely, so you have the marbling

6. Choc-full of chocolate chips
- Mix in chocolate chips throughout the batter
- TIP: Dusting chocolate chips with flour helps them not sink to the bottom of your batter
- Top with chocolate chips for a chocolate OVERLOAD
- I particularly love this dairy free brand
7. GET NUTTY WITH IT
- Mix in some almond butter or peanut butter
- I used about 2 tsp organic peanut butter in my mini loaf
- I prefer this brand from costco — SO good and SO inexpensive!
- I used about 2 tsp organic peanut butter in my mini loaf
- Top it with your favorite nut!
- I used cashews because it’s all we had + they’re also my favorite nut 🙂
