When you are on baby number two, you already have most of what you need. These gifts are specifically for the mom to feel loved and appreciated after her second baby.
Bamboo PJs
Consider either short sleeve or long sleeve depending on the season. Also consider if the mom is breastfeeding so you can get her breastfeeding friendly pajamas!
Luxury Bed sheets
Although sleep is limited in the newborn stage, you want to make your bed as comfy and cozy as possible. I have these sheets and they’re my favorite!
A postpartum basket

Silk pillowcase
To go along with luxury bed sheets, try a luxurious silk pillowcase!
Sentimental jewelry

If you are looking to specifically provide a gift for the new baby, here is a list of the best gifts for a second baby.
Diapers
I suggest newborn, size 1, or size 2. Check with the parents to see if they have a brand they prefer. I highly recommend Pampers Swaddlers!
Wipes
Make sure they are unscented and for sensitive skin or ask your second time mom friend what they prefer.
Burp Cloths
These are not something she is going to want to reuse between babies. I recommend muslim burp clothes in this shape because they won’t fall off her shoulder!
White Noise Machine
Be wary of the hatch sound machine as they have recently had a recall on their products! I use this one for my 3 year old and it’s lasted us 3.5 years with no issues.
Baby shampoo & body wash
I always trust this brand and personally use their products myself and for my toddler. As a second time mom, she may already have a brand she prefers.
Baby laundry detergent
For baby’s sensitive skin!
Formula
If formula feeding, ask the new mom what formula her baby is taking and purchase a pack or two. Formula is always one of the best gifts for second time moms!
Freezer Bags
To store breast milk if breastfeeding.
Pacifiers, Teethers, Bottles
Things that spend a lot of time in baby’s mouth should be replaced in between kids.
My toddler loved these pacifiers and bottles. Be sure to ask which pacifiers and bottles her baby responds well to before purchasing!
Consumables
Infant Tylenol, Infant Motrin, Little Remedies Gas Drops, & Vitamin D drops if she plans to breastfeed. Always look for dye-free when it comes to medications.
Any clothes they need
Ask about clothing. If you live somewhere with seasons, and baby 1 was born in the summer but baby 2 is born in the winter, the timing won’t be the same for long sleeves and pants vs short sleeves and shirts. The babies also may be different genders.

Stroller attachement
You can ask if she needs a stroller attachment so both kids can use the stroller at the same time. Some strollers have a glider board that can attach for the older kid.
Think of the first born

I would argue that the best gifts for second time moms is an act of service. Specifically an act of service that helps the parents save time or get rest.

Home cooked meal
When my friends and family dropped off lasagnas and casseroles for our first, it was the best gift! I got sick of ordering take out and nothing was better than a home cooked meal. No matter what you bring, make sure there’s enough for leftovers!
Offering to do laundry, dishes, any chores
Chores and household tasks are the last thing parents with newborns want to be doing when they come home from the hospital. These acts of service go a long way!
Offering to take one kid for a couple of hours
One of the best gifts a second time mom (or any parent!) can get is someone offering to take their toddler out while they bond with the new baby.
If you live out of town and can’t provide the act of service personally, hire someone who can! Here are some ideas below if you live out of town:
Organize a meal train

My friend set up a meal train online that allowed our family and friends to pick days to provide us with meals. We had meals for the first 6 weeks postpartum!
They could sign up to drop-off meals, have them delivered, or send gift cards.
Send gift cards for food or grocery delivery
A gift card to Instacart is the perfect gift for a second time mom. Anything that saves time (especially errands) is a great gift!
House cleaning service
Having someone else clean your house is such a treat! We have someone come twice a month and it makes such a difference.
Consider hiring a cleaning service to come either right before the second baby arrives or a few weeks into postpartum.
