Ingredients Needed for Caramelized Peaches

  • Peaches – try to use ripe peaches, but ones that are firm.
  • cinnamon
  • lemon juice
  • Honey – can also swap for pure maple syrup if needed. This takes the place of using sugar to get the caramelized effect.
  • kosher salt
  • unsalted butter – use vegan butter if desired. If you use salted butter, you may not need the other salt.
  • Pure vanilla extract

How to Make Caramelized Peaches

Wash and dry the peaches well.

Remove the pit and cut into wedges, no need to peel!

Place them in a bowl with cinnamon, lemon juice, honey, and salt. Toss to combine.

Melt the butter in a medium saucepan and add the peach mixture.

Simmer for about 10 minutes or until they are caramelized.

Stir in the vanilla and serve!

Can You Use Frozen Peaches or Canned Peaches?

Yes! Let frozen peaches thaw completely and drain off as much liquid as you can. If you are going to use canned peaches, be sure to buy the ones that have no sugar added (that means no corn syrup too!). As they caramelize, they may become overly sweet.

Can You Make Them Whole?

Instead of slicing the peaches, you can keep them whole. Simply pit them, follow the other instructions, except place them flesh side down in the skillet.

This almost makes a little bowl for the ice cream to sit in. You could also whip up an easy oat or streusel topping if you wanted, which works best for whole caramelized peaches.

Tips for Making

  • Brown sugar can also be used if you don’t have honey or maple syrup.
  • I don’t peel my peaches, but if you want to you can.
  • Feel free to experiment with flavors. I like these sweetened, but herbs like rosemary and thyme pair well with peaches.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt for the ultimate treat!
  • Slightly firm peaches work the best.
  • You can use this same recipe to make caramelized apples and pears! ‘
