It’s so easy to be tempted to grab a boxed mix from the shelf, but by making brownies from scratch you know exactly what’s in them and you can customize them to fit whatever lifestyle you may lead, such as gluten free, vegan, or even flourless!

Today I am spotlighting tahini and it is stealing the show!

Here’s are a couple of other recipes using tahini:

What is Tahini?

Essentially tahini is just ground toasted sesame seeds that can be used in sweet and savory dishes. Many times you will see it in dressings and hummus. It’s also naturally vegan and gluten free. If you think you want to make a homemade dressing, you should try my Lemon Tahini Collagen Dressing.

Can You Make Homemade Tahini?

Yes! The process is simple…ground toasted sesame seeds in a high-speed blender until a paste forms. Most of the time you won’t even need to add additional oil.

How To Make Tahini Brownies

Grease an 8×8 baking pan or glass dish by using non-stick cooking spray. You can also line it with parchment paper if you choose. Then preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, tahini, almond milk, and egg until it’s smooth

Using another bowl, add in the flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder and still until it’s mixed together.

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and fold in the chocolate chips.

Add the batter to the greased baking dish, making sure it’s even.

Bake for about 20 minutes. You can use a toothpick to be sure they are done, it should come out clean.

Before slicing and serving, let them cool in the pan so they don’t fall apart.

Can You Make These Vegan?

Yes! Simply replace the egg with a flax egg.

How To Store

Wrap the dish with aluminum foil once they have cooled and you can leave them out at room temperature or store them in the refrigerator.

To freeze, wrap them in foil and place them in a freezer-safe bag. They will stay fresh for about 2 months.
