Healthy Tahini Chocolate Chunk Blondies | Dairy-Free, Oil-Free

Healthy Dairy-Free Tahini Chocolate Chunk Blondies are oil-free, soft, chewy, and perfectly sweet. Tahini adds a fun, nutty flavor for a fun switch up from most traditional dessert flavors! Enjoy warm out of the oven or served cold out of the fridge. Either way your friends and family will thank you!

I don’t have kids… but I have a theory that choosing a favorite recipe must be like what choosing a favorite child feels like. I find myself saying over and over again “Y’all… this is my favorite recipe ever!” or “You NEED this recipe in your life.”

Well, hear me out when I say if you make ANY of my recipes, this one needs to be at the top of your list (!!!) More specifically if you’re looking for a blondie recipe – this is it.

One of my greatest discoveries of 2019 is DEFINITELY the addition of tahini to baked goods.

I never thought of tahini having any other use except for making hummus, but it turns out it makes for the most magical, nutty flavor in baked goods. Don’t believe me? Try these healthy oatmeal tahini chocolate chip cookies and then let’s talk 😉

Tahini based desserts are especially delicious when combined with chocolate. But then again, what isn’t better with the addition of chocolate? HA.

These healthy tahini chocolate chunk blondies are soft, chewy and not overly sweet. Not to mention a fun switch up from most traditional dessert flavors!

What else should you know about these dairy-free tahini blondies?

  1. They are made healthier than most desserts by using a blend of whole wheat and all-purpose flour, swapping granulated sugar for coconut sugar, and are oil-free! I used applesauce in place of the oil/butter.
  2. They are delicious both warm out of the oven or eaten cold out of the fridge (they turn super fudgy like these Fudgy Flourless Sweet Potato Brownies!)
  3. They take about ten minutes to throw together.

I honestly have no idea how I went this many years of my life without these dairy-free blondies.

What you need for these healthy tahini blondies:

Ingredients:
  • Whole Wheat Flour (I love this one)
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Tahini (my favorite)
  • Baking Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Coconut Sugar (currently using)
  • Applesauce
  • Eggs (Try swapping for flax eggs if vegan!)
  • Vanilla
  • Dark Chocolate Chunks
  • Salt

Appliances/Utensils:

  • 8×8 Baking Pan (I recommend using a ceramic pan for even more gooey blondies)
  • 2 mixing bowls
  • Oven Mitt (Got this one for our wedding shower and still using it, two years later!)
  • Measuring Cups

  1. Really good! I made them for my son the first time (as written, using flax instead of eggs) and my husband ate the entire pan in 2 days! I’m making them a second time (hiding them from my husband this time, lol). Thank you!

  2. Seriously so excited you posted this! I was searching Pinterest yesterday for Tahini cookie recipes, but blondies are way better!

  3. I would love to make these, but unfortunately my husband is allergic to apples so I am not able to bake with applesauce. Can you recommend a substitution and how much? Thanks!

  4. This looks delicious. Do you recommend a ceramic pan over a metal baking pan? If I go with a dark metal pan, would I need to adjust the temperature down or just adjust the baking time? Thanks!

    1. Hi Sandra! I used a stoneware baking pan for these and haven’t used a metal baking pan yet! I’d assume you would be fine with a metal baking pan, but I would definitely keep an eye on it. You may need to reduce baking time or add foil on top to keep it from getting too brown.
