What Makes This Healthy Coffee Cake Paleo?

If you are unfamiliar with the Paleo diet, basically it means that you eat only whole foods and exclude grains, legumes, and dairy products. The idea behind the Paleo diet is to think about what hunter-gatherers would eat a long time ago. You wouldn’t run out and grab a pack of Pop-Tarts or processed chips. So the Paleo diet also keeps you away from unhealthy oils, processed foods, and refined sugar.

Compared to traditional coffee cake, this paleo recipe includes some healthy swaps like almond flour instead of all-purpose, coconut oil instead of butter, maple syrup for a natural sweetener, and coconut sugar instead of granulated sugar.

For future reference, if you have some dessert recipes that you want to make healthier coconut sugar is a 1:1 swap compared to table sugar. Also, applesauce can also be used to cut back on oils and butter.
